This year, the Valery Khalilov Moscow Military Music College Celebrates Its 80th Anniversary

Go back

The principal anniversary celebrations will take place on November, 24th at the Russian Army Theatre. This night young aspiring musicians, professors and conductors of the Military Music College will receive congratulations from their colleagues, renowned musicians and other performing artists, as well as those who started their career under the vaults of this legendary Music School.

The history of the Military Music College dates back to the year 1937 when the 2nd Moscow school for the Red Army apprentices was founded. In 1956 the School was renamed the Moscow Suvorov Military Music College, and thereafter its students have been called «Suvorov cadets». Many of the College’s alumni — and the total of the alumni amounts to 3.000 people — have become renowned musicians, conductors and professors. Some are running military bands of the Russian Armed Forces, others could be spotted at the major Russian orchestras such as the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Society Orchestra and many others.

The MMMC students perform at the major venues of Moscow, such as the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, the International House of Music, the State Kremlin Palace etc. The Band’s repertoire spans from the European music and Russian classics to contemporary works and jazz.

The Suvorov cadets perform at the major state events, military ceremonies, and international military music festivals.

Since 1940 all parades in Red Square open with the MMMC’s drum company.

Since 2009 the MMMC Band has been appearing annually at the Spasskaya Tower Festival, turning by all means the real Festival’s headliner and its hallmark.

In compliance with the Russian Government Resolution as of December the 30th, 2016 No. № 2918, the Military Music College bears the name of Lieutenant General Valery Khalilov.

We welcome mass media to the MMMC anniversary concert at the Russian Army Theatre on November, 24. The concert starts at 6pm, mass media are expected at 5.30pm.
