Band of the Air Forces of Italy

Based in Rome, the Band was created in 1937, and its first examination performance took place in the presence of Pietro Mascagni. The Band is in charge of music accompaniment for the state events in the Presidential palace (in turn with the other national military bands). The repertory of the band includes works of over 600 composers: Bach, Rossini, Verdi, Bellini, Wagner, Gershwin, Hindemith and Schoenberg, to name some of them.

The band consists of highly professional musicians, graduates of the Italian conservatories and on actual military service. The musicians regularly participate in military rituals and parades, make tours in Europe, Asia, North and South America. Some of their concerts took place in New York, Chicago, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Hamburg and Berlin, Monaco and Ankara, Rome and La Scala in Milan; Belgium, France, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Bulgaria, Turkey, Spain, etc.

Maestro lieutenant colonel Patrizio Esposito has been the bandmaster since 1992.He graduated from the Conservatory of Sta Cecilia, courses of A. Clementi and F.Donatoni, and studied bandmastering with Maestro D.Renzetti Apart from his work with the Band of the Air Forces of Italy, Patrizio Esposito is giving many concerts in Italy and abroad. A composer and performer, he is also author of some virtual music installations with Italian poets and painters, wrote music for theatre plays. Works of Maestro Esposito are performed at the leading Italian and foreign music festivals.
