| State Academic Ensemble of Adyghe folk dance “Nalmes”2007The choreographic art of the ancient Caucasus people Adyghes is a treasure house, which has a distinctive history. The courageous nature of Adyghe dance, as an ingredient of peoples’ character, was formed over the centuries. The dances prepared youth to campaigns and exploits, to festivities and ceremonies. They were improved, as works of art, and have carried to us the notion of beauty, harmony, plasticity of movements and that what we call as the spirit of the nation. In 1936 the first professional group, State Song and Dance Ensemble, was founded In 1941, with the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the whole men’s part of the Ensemble went to the front, from where a lot never returned.
After the war the Ensemble was revived and the repertoire was significantly enriched. In 1971 it came to be called as the State Ensemble for Peoples Dance of Adyghe. Thanks to theatricalization of dances, art decoration, professional orchestration of peoples’ music, costumes, created by famous artists, the ensemble achieved country-wide recognition. The tours over our country and abroad in Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Poland and Japan were a great success. In 1991 with the appointment of A.T. Kulov, an honoured art worker, as the art director, the Ensemble’s program was almost completely renewed. The choreographic numbers, set in authentic folk movements with the preservation of rhythmic tempo structure of folk music, performed on folk instruments, distinguished the ensemble among the Caucasian collectives. The renewed program allowed it to win a big prize at the International competition of folklore dance in Turkey, laureate of Festivals in UAE, Jordan, Belgium and Germany. In 1996 the ensemble was conferred the title “academic”. Today “Nalmes” is the guardian and interpreter of the best samples of musical and choreographic art of Adyghes.
