| Royal British Air Force, pipes and drums2007The bagpipers and drummers of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain are selected from four bands of volunteers at the air force bases in Helton, Kinloss, Luhars and Waddington. The band comprises of officers, non-commissioned officers, common soldiers and civil personnel from RAF, dressed in uniform with a special tartan, which was approved by the RAF Committee in 2004. At present RAF volunteer bands of pipers are formed according to geographical principle at RAF bases all over the United Kingdom. Their purpose is to encourage interest in traditional music among RAF personnel and local residents, in supporting the morale of servicemen and civilians through participation in cultural and entertainment events. The frequent march outs of RAF pipes and drums at home and abroad and musical score at ceremonial, public and charity events bring a growing popularity to the band. Apart from regular performances at the famous Edinburgh Military Festival (Tattoo), RAF Band visits many countries of the world, for example: Australia, Falkland Islands, Belgium, Estonia and the African continent.
