Every year in early September in Moscow in Red Square takes place the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower”. There can be no doubt now that Russia has its own military bands parade, which does not imitate any of famous Military Tattoos and can be named among the most considerable large-scale events right after May 9 Victory Day parade.
Festival gathers the best music and artist groups of different countries. Although the Festival’s history is rather short, more than 40 military bands from 15 countries have already taken part in Red Square shows. Among these countries are Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa, Russia and others. Russia is traditionally represented by the best state military bands such as The Presidential Orchestra, The Central Military Band of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Students of The Moscow Suvorov Military Music College and The Joint Band of the Moscow Military District. It is military musicians who become ambassadors of peace and mutual respect among different nations due to the Festival and represent a whole variety of national, creative and military traditions of the world.
The “Spasskaya Tower” Festival is an entire breathtaking show which changes radically traditional images of military music. Military marches are being played here side by side with a classical music and Beatles hits. Legendary singer Mireille Mathieu performs here to the accompaniment of more than 1000 musicians. Russian ballet and opera stars concert takes place in Kremlin. All this organic combination of military, classical, folk and popular music, march of military bands and dance shows, demonstration of the weapons skills and laser and pyrotechnic effects makes the Festival one of the most impressive and considerable events of the year.
