Concept of Wind Music Development in Russia to Be Discussed at the VI St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum

On November 16 at 17:00 the Mariinsky State Academic Theater (Mariinsky-2 building), the Stravinsky foyer, will host the meeting of the Wind Society Association of Wind Orchestras, Winders and Percussionists, where the Association will present for discussion the key document «The Concept of Preservation and Development of Instrumental and Orchestral Wind and Percussion Instrument Playing in the Russian Federation».

The meeting will be attended by the following invited participants: Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation O. Yu. Golodets; director and artistic director of the Mariinsky State Academic Theater, People’s Artist of Russia v. A. Gergiyev; head of the Moscow Jazz Orchestra, director of the state school of wind art, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation I. M. Butman. The moderator of the event will be Acting President of the Wind Society Association, Honored Artist of Russia M. A. Bryzgalov.

Solemn Ceremony of Signing an Agreement on Cooperation between the Wind Society Association and Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization International Cultural Center Spasskaya Tower Will be Held at the Meeting.

In 2016, the Wind Society Association of Wind Orchestras, Winders and Percussionists was created for the first time in the history of Russia on the initiative of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation O.Yu. Golodets and military conductor, composer, People’s Artist of Russia Lieutenant General v. M. Khalilov. The activity of the Wind Society is aimed at the development of wind music as one of the most important genres of musical art, as well as patriotic education of the younger generation.

At present, the first document in the national practice that deals with problems of wind performance «The Concept of Preservation and Development of Instrumental and Orchestral Wind and Percussion Instrument Playing in the Russian Federation» has been developed and will be presented within the framework of the Forum.

The concept is aimed at preserving, developing and popularizing wind performance in Russia, as well as creating an enabling environment for the development of professional and amateur wind and percussion instrument playing, including among children and youth, and also at supporting the training of specialists in this area in institutions of higher, secondary and additional education.

About the Wind Society Association

The Wind Society Association of Wind Orchestras, Winders and Percussionists was established in August 2016. Its founders were the State Russian House of Folk Art, All-Russian Museum Association of Musical Culture named after M. I. Glinka, Russian Wind Music Center, as well as association for the revival, support and development of wind and horn instrument playing Center for Horn Music.

The Association is created to support professional musicians and fans of wind music. Its main tasks include the development and popularization of wind instrumental and orchestral performance, familiarization of citizens of the Russian Federation with wind music, increase of professional qualifications of wind orchestra leaders, and work with the younger generation. Acting President of the Wind Society Association is Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Mikhail Bryzgalov.

About the Forum

The VI St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum will be held from November 16 to November 18, 2017. The organizers of the Forum are the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of St. Petersburg. The VI St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum is supported by the Charitable Foundation Art, Science and Sports.

The Forum is developing in parallel in two streams — professional and public — and three areas. Its extensive business program is of interest to specialists in various fields of culture. The business program of the Forum is represented by the work of 14 sections with leaders from among the outstanding domestic cultural figures, who form the agenda and directions for the sectional discussions. The business platform creates conditions for the implementation of projects and signing of agreements in the field of culture. The festival program includes numerous cultural events for residents and guests of St. Petersburg.

The Forum will award the following prizes: Patron of the Year — for the most significant contribution to the support of cultural projects; the Anatoly Lunacharsky Award — a unique award given to cultural workers of non-creative specialties.
